Most gruesome stories may be hidden behind a glamorous list of accomplishments. Lolo, who won the USA and the World Championships for hurdle events in 2013, has only been able to achieve this level through a great deal of hard work and a lot of patience. Jones was the only child of a five-child family as well as grew up in a very poor environment. Her mother had been constantly moving and she even lived in the basement. Jones was required to relocate into a new school each throughout her high school years because of this nomadic existence. Jones, who was interested in track and field events at Theodore Roosevelt High School, was able to live away from her mom to follow her passion. She lived with four different families during her time in high school to study all in the same place. Jones as a cellist in the school's orchestra as well as the winner of Gatorade Iowa track and field athlete of the year was awarded the Gatorade Iowa Athlete Award at the end of high school.
